Sian Ka’an, Where the sky is born

siankaan1The Biosphere Reserve Sian Ka’an is the third largest in Mexico and protects more than 500 000 hectares of tropical ecosystems of the state of Quintana Roo.

The Sian Ka’an reserve is home to low and medium forests, savannas and other floodplain vegetation associations, and also has a portion of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world.

It is also home of at least 800 species of plants and provides habitat for more than 360 species of birds and other animals in the region such as jaguars, pumas, ocelots, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, crocodiles and various types of turtles.
